Not Satisfied with This Service

The two stars are for the second counselor I was paired with, who was generally nice to work with and provided some helpful feedback on my essays. However, I signed up for the premium package expecting strategic guidance on selecting colleges, approaching applications, and boosting my chances of getting into a top-tier school, but none of that happened with Empowerly. Initially, I was assigned a counselor who was a current college student—pleasant but lacking strategic advice. At one point, he forgot about a scheduled meeting, and we had to request a new counselor. My new counselor, supposedly more experienced, was also nice but primarily offered specific feedback on essays and answered my questions without focusing on improving my admission prospects. The advice was often generic and unclear. He frequently seemed to read the essays during our meetings instead of reviewing them beforehand. He rarely replied to my emails. All the guidance I received here was already provided by my school counselor. The admission committee’s review of my application contradicted the counselor’s advice, which added to my confusion. Contrary to what was advertised, working with Empowerly did not enhance my chances of getting into higher-ranked schools—I was admitted to the schools I would have without their help. Additionally, there was no personal touch from my counselor. To this day, I haven’t heard from him regarding my college admission results. Empowerly’s services were greatly misrepresented during their sales presentations.
